Shooting commercials can be dangerous business - but Gerard Rooney is not bitter!

Creating commercials can be a very dangerous business! Gerard Rooney who launched his role as the Murphy's non-bitter spokesman with the ad called "wedding", tells us that filming an advert nearly took his life!

Gerard, who was born in Ulster but now lives in London with his girlfriend Elaine Lordan, told People about the on-set accident in the role he landed back in 93. The ad in question is here, called steeplechase.

"I was filming a key scene where I was standing at a pub window, watching priests running through the streets to church while the other lads laid bets on who'd win."

"The idea was that they'd come up behind me and crowd around."

"I heard them coming like a herd of elephants and next thing I knew I was knocked head-first through the plate-glass window."

"A shard of glass just missed an artery in my neck. It could well have been the end of me."

But, like "Like the Murphy's, I'm not bitter" you can sense Gerard Rooney thinking, as he admitted the role gave his career a boost. Gerard Rooney has just finished his first film Cycle Of Violence and has been lined up to play an RAF sergeant in Invasion Earth, a BBC sci-fi series.

"People were always calling me spaced-out at school, so this will be nothing new."
