Twitter advertisers pulled out before Elon bought it - due to Twitter's child porn problem

In the midst of Twitter hysteria as people attempt to join Mastodon, or change their verified accounts to "Elon Musk" as they tweet their way into getting permanently banned, I noticed a distinct shift in narrative.

Advertisers, it is claimed, are leaving Twitter now due to Elon Musk and his zany new ideas from $8 blue checkmarks, to free speech. People have argued that free speech means harassment and even child porn - which I find ironic. First, child pornography is not a free speech issue, it's just illegal. Second, Twitter's child porn problem is why advertisers left twitter already, remember? Here on adland in September: Major advertisers flee platform due to Twitter's child porn problem.

But don't just take our word for it, see Aljazeera, TorontosunMashable , The Verge, and Searchengine Journal. "Twitter Ads Suspended By Top Brands Because Of Child Exploitation", and Marketing interactive: "Major brands pull ads from Twitter after appearing next to child porn tweets"

The entire "human rights team" was let go from Twitter on Friday, that team was in change of human rights as the name implies, and should have been working to remove all child sexual abuse material. As they were let go people feared that the platform would no be ripe for abuse. Let's see how the platform did when this team was in place, shall we?

Twitter declined to remove sex video exploiting minors, according to lawsuit supported by powerful watchdog groups - the suit can be read in full here. (PDF)
