WONGDOODY’s Los Angeles office today welcomed Matt Burgess as Creative Director. He joins the agency from Olson Minneapolis, where he worked over the last eight years in roles ranging from copywriter to creative director. Burgess will work in conjunction with recently-promoted Creative Director Dennis Lee to lead WONGDOODY’s efforts for Air New Zealand, National University, and Cedars-Sinai.
A Minnesota native, Burgess earned his BA in Strategic Communications from the University of Minnesota’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication before earning his portfolio certificate from Miami Ad School. He hit the ground running as a freelance creative, helping to launch Best Buy’s Geek Squad nationwide and develop the brand’s memorable “Kevin Kringle” holiday ads. He later joined Campbell Mithun as a copywriter, producing work for brands including Nature Valley, Burger King, H&R Block, the United Way, and others. After joining Olson in 2008, Burgess crafted creative for Capital One, Target, Yoplait, Green Giant, the University of Minnesota, and many more. Over the years, his work has been recognized by top award shows including the Clios, Andy Awards, Effies, Young Guns, The Gunn Report, and the Obies.
“We’re thrilled that Matt is making the move to LA to join the WONGDOODY family,” said Pam Fujimoto, Executive Creative Director at WONGDOODY. “He’s whip-smart and brings leadership, dedication, and enthusiasm that both our agency and clients will immediately benefit from.”
“I’m so excited to join WONGDOODY and to really enter a new phase in my career,” said Burgess. “Being at one of the top small agencies and in one of the top media markets in the world, it’s such a wonderful opportunity. I can’t wait to get started with Pam and the rest of the team – and to sample all the best taco places near the office.”
