Cool idea backed by the founder of Big Issue magazine, John Bird, and social entrepreneur Cemal Ezel. While homeless people sell Big Issue magazine, this goes one step further by teaching them how to be baristas, selling coffee from mobile espresso machines. Late last month, Change Please launched five coffee carts around London by the newly trained baristas. Going one step beyond this, the homeless were housed and paid London living wages, so they were getting off the streets while also earning a living. FCB Inferno believed in the idea so much that it provided the funding to buy the first cart, and funding is in place for 20 additional carts. Love this because it solves multiple problems. The first and deeper one is of course homelessness. The second, more superficial, but still practical problem solved is, how to make it easier for people to get their cup of joe.
The coffee, by the way is sourced from all over the world is roasted locally in London. You can also purchase the beans online. To find out more, go to Change Please.
