Here's a semi tear-jerker just in time for the holidays. It's the story of a basketball hoop, you know, the kind that's in front of suburban houses, and the dad who gets a vicarious thrill out of watching his daughter grow up playing hoops. All set to an Americana-sounding track by a guy with a beard. (I guessed on that last part but upon checking it seems I was right. )
While the spot is schmalzy it does have a good insight. But boy does it takes itself way too seriously.
I also think it's funny when spots like these come out. Considering the long hours we work, most of us aren't around to see our kids. Maybe the team who made this spot are channelling all that guilt and grief into something special.
Client: Dick's Sporting Goods
Production: RSA films
Director: Jake Scott
Agency Anomaly
Song: "American Beauty" by Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors
It's the same story-idea as "the hoop". Because Sporting goods aren't and item, they're an invitation... At least that the proposition i reverse engineered from watching these ads.
