Kronenbourg 1664 "the French Blah Blah" (2013) :30 (France)

In which people who aren't French speak gibberish with bad French accents, because you don't have to be French to drink Kronenbourg.

Well, duh. Of course not.

The French don't drink a lot of Kronenbourg, or Seize as it is known, because it is a light beer with no taste.

They certainly aren't drinking much beer of any kind this year, as French Parliament voted to raise beer tax by 160%.

Ironically enough for Kronenbourg 1664 is this: in 1964 DDB created its "You don't have to be Jewish to love Levy's campaign.

Comment vous dites "It's been done already," en français?

Oh, I know!

Déjà vu.

Seize the beer!

What are you talking about? Qu'est ce que vous dites? It's actually the top selling beer in France. 40% market share. Nobody else is even close. Be more worldly and less 'inwardly'. Oh, and its an OK commercial - more so if you are in on the joke.

Mcdonald's is the best selling fast food in the world. It doesn't make it good food.

It was an okay commercial, when a bagel company did the exact same thing in 1964.

Am I supposed to be in on the joke that Sid Lee isn't aware of advertising history?

Dabitch's picture

Is "inwardly" something I need to be French to understand?

Worst commercial EVER! Manquer épique.

I feel like it's been done more often than just the Levy's example. It's a standard first thought idea that most people get out of their system in portfolio school. The execution is somewhat funny, in that they are all terrible at saying even the most basic things.

Oh yes, it's been done more often than Levy's. I was just proving a point that it was done nearly fifty years ago.

Maybe they're being retro. That's a french word, isn't it? OH MY GOD THAT'S THE JOKE?

* clue by four: I know it's latin. I'm making a funny.
