Googles "minion mic drop" Aprils fools backfires badly

Google launched an April fools this year that caused widespread embarrassment, quite possible a few people getting fired or not hired, and headaches for all. The idea was to have a "send" and a "minion mic drop send", but using either button sent the minion mic drop gif attached to your email. Worse still, it muted all the replies, and the un-muting function didn't work. How awkward could it get? Very very awkward, as in this made up example:

While the idea of a "mic drop" send button might be funny for a moment, this backfired heavily due to it introducing a bug to gmail, where it attached the "mic drop send" to all emails, regardless of which button you used. Asking for prayers for a sick friend? Mic drop. Planning a funeral? Mic drop. Sending resumé and cover letter to a potential employer? Mic drop. Trying to ask your crush out? Mic drop. She gets a mic drop, he gets a mic drop, everyone gets a mic drop!

Googles product forums are overrun with people who wanted help in removing the button, all detailing their embarrassment and possible job losses to to sending something so cocky to HR. There's some very upset people out there. The official Google blog pulled back the prank and apologised, but for some it's too little, too late.

UPDATE: Well, it looks like we pranked ourselves this year. Due to a bug, the Mic Drop feature inadvertently caused more headaches than laughs. We’re truly sorry. The feature has been turned off. If you are still seeing it, please reload your Gmail page.

In general using the minion mic drop is a bad idea, just ask planned parenthood how tone deaf they seemed when they used it.
