We've had a bit of election fever and made some Party Election Broadcast spoofs. The ads were commissioned by Channel 4 News' Independents' Fund and will be broadcast within Channel 4 News as the last item for the next three nights.
"We think it's what the parties would produce if they weren't limited by political correctness", says Lee.
For a sneak preview of each ad which will be airing on UK tv 26th April 7.50pm and 27th April 7.50pm.

These ideas are fairly average rehashes of tried tested and true ad shtick.
But that's not the problem.
Considering how hard hitting and/or entertaining they should have been,
I find the spots disappointingly underwhelming.
Maybe Lee and Dan were under crazy time deadlines or something.
It's always better to bake the cake completely before you serve it.

PermalinkThe sign-execution of the Conservatives one wasn't half-bad. I liked that, I dug the cheeky "clean me" in the hospital. Couldn't read all of them tho, like the road-signs for example, as shoddy windows media and my computer never really did get along. Dang.

PermalinkThe labour one wasn't very good at all. Perhaps they want us to vote conservative?

PermalinkI personally enjoyed the conservative spot, it not be done in the most original style but the content was. I especially enjoyed the satirical juxtaposition of the film style used to endorse the conservative view.
I was hoping that someone could enlighten me on what song was used with the conservative spot?

PermalinkThe labour one is labored, something isn't right with the pacing of that one though the casting is good.

PermalinkI'm inclined to agree with Plywood, though a little harsh in the overall verdict I think. Labour's one started great - genuinely creepy - but then it's like they couldn't think what to do with it. The Lib-Dem one again a nice idea but then completely unconvincing. My favourite was the Tory one - pastiche of scaremongering 'dog whistle' scenarios. Could it be that these ads actually perfectly reflect the parties that they are supposedly on behalf of? Labour: good start though kinda creepy, degenerating into pale 2D hype - Lib/Dem: Nice ideas though kind of embarrassing and unbelievable - Conservative: Very amusing but somehow pointless?

PermalinkI think they're all pretty cool, the Con one is the best, but I guess they were trying to give them all a different feel. They're for TV too, so remember lots of regs. I'm sure they'd have been a lot harder if they were viral only. They've struck a good balance in that they're almost believable (which is the basis for good spoof) as real broadcasts. In short they made me chuckle which is always a good thing.
