NIKON TAKES A "JOY RIDE" WITH DIRECTOR SANDRO MILLER FOR THEIR NEW NIKON D800

Nikon and director Sandro Miller of Cap Gun Collective collaborate on "Joy Ride," a beautiful, long-form spot highlighting the new Nikon D800 camera. The film was shot with DP Anthony Arendt on the new Nikon D800, which expertly navigated through the challenges of lighting and motion. The spot is an exercise in the craft of cinema, utilizing the latest technology to create stunning results.

Sandro Miller is a world-renowned portrait and editorial photographer who has worked with Nikon for many years to introduce the latest technology to the professional photographic world.  Sandro broke into the directorial world last year with recognition in the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase at the 2011 Cannes Lions for his work on “Butterflies (ft. John Malkovich)," and signed on with CapGun Collective in Chicago and London.

The five-minute spot was minutely crafted and storyboarded by Sandro and the Nikon team in advance of the project.  "The work flow was handled precisely," comments Sandro.  "We had five to ten cameras going at any given time, so knowing what we wanted was essential.  Editor Alaster Jordon of Whitehouse Post brought his brilliance to the edit of the film.  We dissected every file to find the scene for each moment of the story."

The Nikon D800 camera itself is a revolutionary addition to any filmmaking medium. “Small, compact, with great glass and all the features any great director/DP could need. I could have ten of these cameras on set working simultaneously on a film for the price of one camera of its closest competitors,” says Sandro. "The possibilities are endless."

The camera has a high resolution 36.3-megapizel FX-format CMOS sensor, a 91,000-pixel RGB Matrix Metering System, and Advanced Scene Recognition System. The NIKKOR lens compatibility and full HD 1080p video, along with full manual control, uncompressed HDMI output, and incredibly low-light video capability driven by Nikon’s latest EXPEED 3 image allow unparalled images for a myriad of disciplines.
