In a pretty classic move, Draft washes their hands off the lion ad that caused such a ruckus. Adfreak even says that "Draft calls Cannes ad 'a terrible mistake'. A leaked internal Draft email reads:
We Made a MistakeMakethelogobigger quipped in the comments 'The Draft rep went on to say: "We apologize for this ad being released. The client should've been the one on top."' - HA! This is a pretty standard move though, when the shit hits the fan, pretend interns did it without agency approval. It's in the advertising business survival kit as exscuse #1. Sad. The saddest part of all is that the ad itself isn't offensive 'to women' or whatever some make it out to be, it's offensive to the craft of creativity for being so damn uncreative. The Draft hatefest continues in Adfreak's comments, post #1 and post #2.A DraftFCB ad that was intended to congratulate the winners at this year's Cannes Advertising Festival recently ran in a U.S. trade publication. Its target audience was fellow industry insiders, but the ad has now generated a good deal of criticism. In no way are we trying to defend this ad. It in no way reflects the culture and values of this agency. It was mistakenly submitted to the magazine without going through the proper approval process, and it should never have run. We are taking the necessary steps to make sure a mistake like this doesn't happen again. And we are very sorry for offending anyone. Please accept my heartfelt apologies.

PermalinkLions humping Tigers is creative! At least the naming of the crossbreeds is, a lion+tiger has giant brown offspring called the liger and they are supercool. That's if daddy is a lion and mom is a tiger, if the situation is reversed it would create teeny tiny large cats called tigons. If a liger were to mate and reproduce with a tiger, the offspring would be called a titi, and if it were to reproduce with a lion, the offspring would be call a lili. This concludes stupid-big-cat trivia of the week.

PermalinkThis ad is lame lame lame.
But not quite as lame as the head 'em offended clients off at the pass apology that blames a junior team or junior media guy bullshit.
