FNAC vs. Rocket Boom vs. Flickr

It's good to see that album art is alive and well in the era of mp3s. But to quote AC/DC, who made who?

Rocket Boom gave credit to the Flickr LP Portraits Pool.

That's quite impressive.

I searched through that flickr pool to see if they had done that specific Elvis/Joplin and Morrison pose but didn't find those poses there. So I dunno, it's kind of a old game in a way, isn't it? At the same time - yep, same idea, totally. Interesting brainsync!

Also, I'm thrilled there's a place that sells vinyl that's rich enough to advertise so I might forgive them for anything. ;) VINYL RULES!

Trouble is, all the kids are getting into vinyl. That means my old happy hunting grounds, the charity shops, are full of 15 year olds buying old vinyl. And the charity shops are hiking their prices accordingly. Gah!

YO Propaganda in Brazil has just done something very similar for RBS TV and Contrapunto in Madrid has done the same for Amnesty International. There are examples of both over at Ads of the World.

There's been an ad running in Mental Floss magazine for a long time with a guy whose head is covered with a different Doors album. It's for the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame or something. I'm pretty sure I saw that one before I saw the explosion of album heads everywhere else. But how can you ever really find a true originator?

Pffft - this little album cover trick has been around forever. As in decades. Rocketboom certainly didn't come up with it.

Another dupliclaim ad (Smooth Radio) can be found here.
