More Cannes Badlanders - AIDES vs Red Cross

Here's a good trick, if you wish to win an award, dust off a great idea from a vintage award winning year. Since careers in advertising are so short, 5 years will do, but ten years is even better. Go!

The year 1996 Saatchi&Saatchi Wellington, NZ created these posters for Red Cross.
Since my scanner is acting up, these shoddy photos will have to do for the moment, I hope you can still make out what is going on.

The ad is painted, like one of those street murals, onto brick walls and then photographed. Street crap like tyres and broken walls frame the message.

Fast forward to Cannes Lions 2006 and these fab looking ads for AIDES. The ad is painted, like one of those street murals, onto brick walls and then photographed. Where have I heard that before?

TBWAPARIS CW: Veronique Sels AD: Ingrid Varetz - Bronze winner in the Outdoor category.

Verdict: they're both showstoppingly good looking, and would be much better as actual murals. Listed under homage as they're both giving the nod to real street murals.
