DollarShaveClub.com - Our Blades Are F***ing Great

More like: Our Blades Are F**ing Old Spice Meets Kevin Butler ripoffs. Because where else have we seen a dude walking to camera and smart-ass talking, while weird and silly stuff happens all around? Oh, and a polio joke, too. Which is supposed to be funny. How many times will we keep seeing spots like these? Once more, apparently:

According to the Wall Street Journal's blog, http://blogs.wsj.com/venturecapital/2012/03/06/dollar-shave-clubs-video-a-cut-above/ Dollar Shave Club is just what it sounds like. A razor-by-mail delivery service.

First off, how is that even legal.

Second, this feels like the next coming of those old cynical dot com spots from days of yore. Anyone remember outpost?

Third, while it's nice you apparently created jobs, or a job, and you're all rah rah America, is the world really crying out for razors by mail?

Time will tell.

And by "Time will tell," we mean "Never."

“The world is filled with bad commercials and people who are marketing too hard," Dubin says. "I think what we wanted to do is not take ourselves too seriously, and deliver an irreverent smart tone."
Dubin wrote the spot last October and shot it with his good friend and co-director, Lucia Aniello. It cost about $4,500 and the team managed to bang it out in a single day, shooting on location at the actual factory warehouse, at their fulfillment center in Gardena, California.
Not every CEO is cut out for making Funny or Die quality sketch-like ads, obviously. When he was living in New York, Michael Dubin took classes at beloved comedy training grounds, the Upright Citizens Brigade theatre, and has long dabbled in funny business.
"Sketch has always been a hobby of mine," Dubin says, "but I’m also passionate about business. Nowadays the line between art and commercial is very blurry, especially on the web. This is a great opportunity to create art that can actually boost a business. I’m passionate about the internet and comedy, and this is a perfect intersection of those two passions for me."

Honestly though, this really feels like a similar idea happened in the previous dot-com era.

It's a fucking ad. And a pretty fucking good one. Does the world need razors in the mail? Yes it fucking does. Because as the spot helpfully points out, razors in the supermarket cost 30 fucking dollars for a pack of 4 which is a fucking joke. I hope the guy makes a fucking fortune.
