Over the weekend, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong had a Twitter thread about the Coinbase super bowl ad, stating that "No ad agency would have done this ad.", in a longer thread about how the ad came about.
But then Kristen Cavallo, CEO of The Martin Agency, tweeted back at him, "except an ad agency did do that ad".
Matt MacDonald, the Executive Creative Director of BBDO New York sums up ad-twitters reaction.

Ryan Mac, a tech reporter at the New York Times, took note of the Twitter spat and documented it in a thread on Presidents Day.
The Coinbase CEO wrote a long thread discussing how their super bowl commercial came about and suggesting there are lessons in being non-traditional and not listening to ad agencies. But then he gets called out lol. pic.twitter.com/BbzCQbK8gB

Then after getting called out he added a 12th tweet to his thread, 12 hours after his previous tweet, to credit the “creative firm” though not by name. Beautiful. pic.twitter.com/Q5CUxpDcDg
