Advertising icons breaking bread like the last supper - times two!

It's been a minute since Claymore showed us "the last pancake breakfast" by Dick Detzner but it is now ready to be Badlanded!  Blogger Lavasurfer has discovered a similarity to other artwork in there, and shares:

These two pieces of art have created a stir, amongst the public --- for it's sacrilegious handling of Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper" --- and between the artists. Dick Detzner contacted me personally. Howard Hallis contacted me on behalf of his cousin Aubrey Hallis. And finally, I was able to get in touch with Aubrey Hallis himself. Here are the two substantially similar pieces of breakfast art by different artists.

Aubrey Hallis created a similar piece in 1996. It shows advertising mascots such as Mrs Butterworth, Tony the Tiger, William Penn the Quaker Oats man, Rastus the cream of wheat chef, and several cartoon cereal characters.

Aubrey Hallis said about this: "I guess what I¹m saying is I¹m not pretentious enough to believe that this is such an original idea. The Last Supper must have been painted thousands of times before with new characters in the place of the big C and his posse. It was only a matter of time before someone put breakfast cereal advertising mascots into Da Vinci¹s famous work. And now someone, at least 2 of us have. I like Mr. Detzner's version of this painting. He went a different way with it, but I still like it".

A worthy Badlander, even if it isn't an advert. Sometimes two people just have the same idea.
